City Soil
Editorial. Typesetting. Masthead.
Objective
City Soil is a quarterly publication that eplores the concept of urban homesteading. A fun, funky, gender neutral magazine full of articles, tips and information for those folks living in the city or suburbs, yet wanting to grow their own food, raise chickens, and live a more sustainable lifestyle. City Soil is directed towards an eclectic demographic aged 20-45 years old. The bright nature of the cover design and the clean layout of the articles within are arranged to attract that specific audience.
Solution
A bright, eye catching approach to design was used to attract a wide range of readers. Bold fonts, bright colors and extremely zoomed in images are used to create cohesivity throughout each issue. All while space, clean lines and a grid system make each article engaging and easy to read. By using organic typefaces and axis play, the masthead and article titles draw the reader into a world of controlled chaos and ingenuity, letting each article cleanly and cohesively tell the story of city gardens, love for our planet and living in the country is not necessary to have the farm of your dreams.
